Distributors tend to use their know-how and size to make sure that the DVDs end up on shelves of supermarkets and stores, therefore making sure that the movies are able to make as much profit as possible.

Distributors also obtain the BBFC certificate, and use this to make sure that certain types of movies are released at appropriate times
for example, a horror movie released at Halloween or suspicious times such as Friday 13th. The ring is a prime example, being a Horror/Thriller movie it was released in October 18, 2002. This makes room for as much viewing as possible as the release date would be relevant.
Name some film distributors - do different distributors specialise in particular types of films? Which distribution companies distributed the Thriller films that you have analysed? Also see 'Collect work' for more info. This is a large part of your exam work so the more research you can do now the better.
