Hybrid Genre

A hybrid genre is a combination of more than two different genre, because there are two different genres the hybrid would be appealing to a larger audience. This would be more lucrative for the film companies as some people consider them more creative and exciting, therefore they would be making more money.

Some examples of hybrid are:
-Horror romance
 e.g Twilight
-Horror war
 e.g dead snow
-Horror Historical Drama
 e.g pride and prejudice and zombies
-Horror RomCom
 e.g shaun of the dead
- Romcoms
 e.g Romance & Cigarettes

50 first dates is an example of a hybrid. This image has been taken from a movie which is a Romantic Comedy hybrid genre. It is clear from this still image that this is a romcom because it includes the pretty young woman and the goofy man. This is obvious as she is natural and blonde, connoting innocence and purity, where he wears pink flowers round his neck, defeating his power and manliness, making him seem like a hysterical character.



Twilight is also an example of a hybrid film as includes 3 different genres, horror, fantasy and romance. This is shown in the image through lighting. The lighting is very dark which indicates that sense of horror. The couple are central, grasping eachother, giving the romantic element in the movie. The fact the characters are stood proud in dark clothing with pale skin and unusually coloured eyes creates the fanatical feel as they seem inhuman.
