Sub-genre

Are identifiable sub-classes, almost like a sub heading within the larger film genre, with their own distinctive subject matter, style, formulas and iconography. For example, a Genre is a category, Subgenre is a sub category. Almost like a genre within a genre.
There are many different types od Action Adventure, for example, spy, espionage, political thrillers, and races against time. There are all different sub genres within the Action Adventure genre.

This mind map demonstrates the different subgenres which are included within a genre. For example, there's Harry Potter which is an urban fantasy movie and Catch That Kid which is a more traditional/adventure fantasy movie. Both of which coming under the fantasy genre, they are just placed in different sub genres to make both even easier to identify. This then helps the audience sort through their favourite genre, discovering their exact taste in certain movies, therefore increasing the income which the film industry create.
